Here in Pakistan finding sushi becomes quite difficult. Especially in Peshawar city. Therefore I thought why not try it myself rather than search for it in Islamabad and Lahore. 

Just because sushi is rarely available in Pakistan so it’s expensive as well. Every time I ask for the rate it’s a minimum of 1200 for two people. Therefore it’s better to make it in your own home comfort. I was amazed to know about the easy making of shrimp tempura roll. 

Trick to perfect sushi:

The trick to tempura roll is the perfect rice. The rice with small grain. And finding small grain rice isn’t difficult because it’s easily available at the market. Also, you can use frozen tempura to make rolls. 

Use a bamboo mat to roll up your sushi. And sushi is the best snack you can introduce to your kid. And if you have frozen tempura in your fridge you don’t have to worry about sudden guests because you can serve them quick sushi. 

Cucumber and Avacado really add a lot to the taste of sushi plus you can make your child eat something green. Also, when you eat cucumber in sushi it makes you fresh and hydrated.

Ingredients:

  • For the sushi rice:
    • 2 cups uncooked sushi rice
    • 2 cups water
    • 2 tablespoons rice vinegar
    • 2 tablespoons sugar
    • 1 ½ teaspoons salt
    • For the sushi rolls:
    • 4 sheets of nori
    • 8 pre-cooked tempura shrimp
    • 8 strips of cucumber
    • 8 slices of avocado
    • 3 tablespoons black and/or white sesame seeds (Benifits of sesame seeds)

Method:

  • Rinse the rice until the water gets clear. Tale a saucepan on medium-high heat and place rice and 2 cups of water into it. Don’t cover it and bring a boil into it. Then reduce the flame to low and cover with lid for 15 minutes. 
  • Then take a bowl and add rice vinegar, sugar, and salt into it. Microwave it for 25_30 seconds. Transfer the rice into another bowl and add the mixture of vinegar. Fold it to combine thoroughly. Let the rice to cool at room temperature.
  • Put nori sheet and press rice on it. Take it to all edges. If your fingers are damp slightly, it becomes more easier. 
  • Take a plastic wrap and place it on the rice over the nori sheet. Make sure the seaweed side is up. 
  • Along one side of the nori place two slices of cucumber, two of Avacado, and 2 shrimp tempura. 
  • Then pick up the edge and tightly make a roll. Put some sesame seeds in rice of roll. Take a sharp knife and slice down the roll.

Serving:

Shrimp tempura roll is ready to serve. Cut it down into slices and transfer it into a beautiful serving plate. You can serve It as the starter as well as a side dish. Also, it can be prepared at carving events. 

I usually have it at the time of snacks with a glass of orange juice or black coffee. Because black coffee really goes with shrimp tempura.
